"This is going to be a great addition for our guests here at Ragged Mountain, as well as for vacationers in the area and the local community," said Bob Ashton, president and general manager. "We have invested millions of dollars over the past five years to improve the skiing at Ragged Mountain, and it definitely shows, but the new mountain coaster is one of the first major year-round infrastructure improvements we are making that will augment the summer experience as well. It's really the start of our planned expansion which will create a four-season resort here at Ragged Mountain."
Guests will climb aboard the new mountain coaster at the base area of the resort for a pleasant ride directly up Ragged Peak in the woods next to the Summit Express high speed six-pack chairlift. Then it's all downhill from there. Expected to be almost a mile in length, the mountain coaster will wind its way down through the trees, and over natural elements, paralleling the Village Street and Exhibition ski trails.
Mountain coasters are popular rides at a number of ski resorts across the country, but the ride at Ragged Mountain will be the first of its kind in the region. Guests can enjoy the thrill of the ride in summer and fall, or even as a break in their ski day.
Ashton further explained that the resort's expansion plans include other recreational amenities such as tubing, treetop aerial adventures, canopy tours, zip lines and mountain biking even as the resort continues to expand its winter offerings. This past winter, Ragged Mountain began to cut the primary trails off the Pinnacle Peak summit, the third peak at the resort. The expansion of new acreage, which should open in the next few years, will eventually give skiers and riders almost 40% more terrain to explore.
Not all of the expansion plans are confined to the slopes, however. On November 15th, Ragged Mountain will begin allowing their season pass holders to place a refundable deposit on a limited number of new real estate units which will be built at the resort. Shortly thereafter, a select number of units will become available to the public at introductory pricing. Details about the future plans and affordable real estate offerings can be viewed on the resort's website or in the Discovery Center at the base of the resort.
Opening day is scheduled for Saturday, November 24. For up-to-date news, conditions, pricing and events, go to www.raggedmountainresort.com or call 1-877-467-5476.
